About this route

Getting from Cartagena to Minca

Minca completely changes the scenery: you leave the coast's humid heat behind and climb through coffee farms to a mountain town with waterfalls, hiking trails, and some of the Sierra Nevada's best coffee, grown minutes from where you drink it.

The trip takes about 5 hours: first the coastal highway to Santa Marta, then the climb into the Sierra. The temperature drop is noticeable — it's worth packing a light jacket for evenings in town.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about this route

Is a Cartagena to Minca day trip possible?

Yes, but it is a long day: 350 km (~5 hours) each way. We recommend a minimum 1-night stay, or start early for a full-day coffee and waterfall tour.

Can we stop halfway?

Absolutely — the road passes through Barranquilla. Popular stops: costeño food at a roadside restaurant or a quick break at the Ciénaga viewpoint.

Do you recommend Minca over Palomino?

They are different: Minca is green jungle, coffee and waterfalls; Palomino is jungle-meets-beach. Your driver can help you plan both in one trip.

What vehicles do you use for this route?

Modern air-conditioned SUVs and vans, all insured and GPS-tracked, matched to your group size and luggage.
